Atlanta, Georgia counties and cities

The city of Atlanta is presently the capital of the state of Georgia in the United States of America. Georgia itself has many counties and cities aside from Atlanta.

 Georgia Counties

 There are presently 159 counties in the state of Georgia. The 1st 10 of the 159 counties are: Screven, Washington, Bulloch, Emanuel, Camden, Charlton, Laurens, Clinch, Burke, Ware. The next 10 are: Thomas, Colquitt, Worth, McIntosh, Glynn, Liberty, Coffee, Decatur, Chatham, and Wayne.

 Dodge, Carroll, Meriwether, Lowndes, Appling, Mitchell, Early, Floyd, Jefferson, and Fulton come next. Grady, Stewart, Bartow, Harris, Wilkes, Hancock, Effingham, Tattnall, Sumter and Brooks are other Georgia counties.

 Among all the Georgia counties, Ware has the biggest area of coverage, with 906.6 square miles under its jurisdiction.

 Georgia cities

 Cities in Georgia are divided into three categories: the bigger cities (which have over 6000 residents each); the smaller cities (which have 1000 to 6000 residents apiece); and the small cities (which each have less than 1000 residents.) Atlanta alone is spread out over 10 counties, and encompasses almost 60 cities.

 Regions of Georgia

 The state of Georgia is subdivided into 12 major regions which have their respective counties under their jurisdiction. For example, under Region 1 can be found Bartow County, Catoosa County, Chattooga County, and Dade County (among others.)

 Government of Georgia

 The administration of the whole of Georgia is split between the local government, the state government and the federal government. Under the local government can be found local government agencies such as: the Georgia Municipal Association; the Coastal Georgia Regional Development Center; the Central Savannah River Area Regional Development Center; the Atlanta Regional Commission; and the Association County Commissioners of Georgia.

 The state government of Georgia is composed of three main agencies: the Executive, the Judicial, and the Legislature. Under the Executive branch of state government are certain government officials such as the Secretary of State, the Office of the Lt. Governor, and the Office of the Governor.
